Kerry Cranage (Dodsworth)

Kerry Cranage (nee Dodsworth) enlisted into the CMF in 197? and was posted to the 3rd Company Women's Royal Australian Army Corps, she was then trained as a radio operator. In 1974 Pte Dodsworth transferred to 126 Signal Squadron (Special Forces) and subsequently posted to 596 Signal Troop which provided both base and field Morse code radio operators. Pte Dodsworth commenced work in the mobile forward base for a number of years.

In 197? L/Cpl Dodsworth married Cpl Bob Cranage who at the time was a Regular Army technician posted to the Squadron.

She transferred to the 4th Combat Engineer Regiment in 1982, returning to the Squadron in 1984.

Promoted to Staff Sergeant in 1990 where she then took on the role of the Supervisor Communications, Commando Signal Troop. In 1997 after serving a total of ? years with the Squadron and having served in 596 Sig Tp, Cdo Sig Tp and Rear Head Quarters Sig Tp Staff Sergeant Cranage transferred to the School of Signals where her skills as an instructor are utilised in training radio operators both Regular and Reserve soldiers from around Australia.

Kerry Cranage has devoted her late teens and adult life to her family and the Corps of Signals. Regardless whether training days were available Kerry would prepare lesson plans, training aids, stores lists and supervise radio operators in the Squadrons radio station complex. While much is made of the importance of wearing a Green Beret it was soldiers such as Staff Sergeant Kerry Cranage who made it happen without the fanfare or recognition
